Dear Full-Day Kindergarten Parent/Guardian:
I am writing to inform you of some very good news!
As a result of receiving a one-time grant for $290,000 from the Massachusetts Dept. of Education, The Belchertown School Committee on November 6, 2007, voted to use this funding to eliminate full-day kindergarten tuition for the 2007-2008 school year.
Every parent or guardian who paid full-day kindergarten tuition will be refunded the full amount of the tuition paid to date and will not have any further obligation to pay full-time kindergarten tuition for the remainder of the 2007-2008 school year.
It’s not often that I open the mail. It’s even less often that I open the mail and find a letter telling me that I’m getting money. Now what in the world am I going to do with an unexpected $1000?
Oh yeah. Fix the car. Heat the house. Stave off another disconnect notice from the utility company.
It was certainly much better than the letter I was expecting:
Dear Full-Day Kindergarten Parent/Guardian/Poor Sap:
I am writing to inform you of some very depressing news!
As a result of not yet receiving a once-a-month payment for $198 from you, The Belchertown School Committee on November 6, 2007, voted to use this non-funding to eliminate your child from full-day kindergarten for the 2007-2008 school year.
